(Sanford) American Red Cross volunteers from the Mid-Florida Region will now staff Sanford and Orlando International Airports around the clock as earthquake evacuees continue to return from Haiti. Teams of volunteers will be permanently stationed at both airports, working in 8 hour shifts, as long as needed.
In the past 48 hours more than 40 volunteers have distributed food, water, diapers, blankets, formula for babies, stuffed toys for children and comfort kits. Since Friday, the Red Cross has also provided:
- 1,000 snacks for hungry evacuees
- 500 comfort kits with soap, toothbrushes and other personal items
- Nurses have cared for 14 patients needing medical attention
The American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region will continue to support other agencies as additional flights arrive in the area.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
