Every 24 hours, on average, the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region is needed at the scene of a local disaster — mostly house and apartment fires — to comfort the impacted families and help them through the recovery process. When the American Red Cross arrives on the scene of a disaster, trained volunteers may provide temporary lodging, emotional support and the means to replace life’s necessities — clothes, shoes, medications and food.
The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources.
Last year, the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Region responded to 719 local disasters and provided assistance to more than 869 families.
All disaster assistance is free and available 24 hours each day; an outright gift from the generous people of the Mid-Florida area.
