Florida's Coast to Coast Chapter Volunteer Opportunities

Getting Started:
 
Step 1:
Each organization has a unique set of skill and time commitments required of their volunteers. Please review our VOLUNTEER SELF ASSESSMENT to help you decide if the American Red Cross is the right fit for you. 
Step 2:
Take our VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION to learn about the Red Cross mission, volunteer expectations, and to build the foundation for your service experience.
 
Step 3:
Check out our VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES page to review some of the volunteer positions available at our chapter.
 
Step 4:
Fill out a VOLUNTEER APPLICATION. Once it is complete please save and either email, fax or mail to the volunteer coordinator listed below.
 
Step 5:
Submit your information on our BACKGROUND CHECK WEBSITE through a secure online portal. Be sure to select the American Red Cross Florida’s Coast to Coast chapter.
  • NOTE: Background checks are required for all potential American Red Cross volunteers. These background checks include a national criminal database search, social security verification and a motor vehicle check.

 ** Note: All volunteers are required to submit a background check prior to beginning their volunteer service.

Administration
 
Front Desk Support: (Office Hours, half day/wk commitment)
Answer & transfer phone calls, relay messages, greet visitors, etc at the front desk of any of our branches.
 
Office Support: (Office hours)
Data entry, filing, returning phone calls, mailings, etc
Community Relations
Community Events Volunteer and Presenters: (Weekdays, Evenings and Weekends)
Attends community events and represents the Red Cross, provides information to public on services and volunteer opportunities.
 
Community Outreach Events and Presentations Coordinator: (Office Hours) Coordinates volunteer presence at events and presentations assembles brochures and supplied to be taken to events.
 
Writer: (Office Hours) Research and interview clients and volunteers for monthly Red Cross publications.
 
Photographer: (Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends, Times of Disaster)
 Documents volunteer activities and disasters by photographing events for use on website and other publications, maintains archive of photos.
 
 
Disaster Services
 
Community Disaster Education Presenter: (Weekdays, Evenings and Weekends)
Be trained to teach disaster preparedness and prevention to local businesses, organizations, schools, etc.
 
Client Caseworker: (Office Hours, 4 hr/wk commitment)
Be trained to assist clients in their recovery process, enter cases in database, and provide customer service and referrals to incoming disaster calls.
 
Disaster Action Team Member: (24 hours a day/7 days a week)
Be trained to respond to home fires and other local disasters and provide clients with their most immediate needs.
 
Disaster Assessment Worker: (24 hours a day/7 days a week)
Provide basic services within the Disaster Assessment activity by gathering, analyzing, interpreting and distributing accurate and timely information about the extent of damage, overall impact, scope of the incident, weather conditions, and demographics of a disaster-affected community as well as providing mapping support.
 
Emergency Response Vehicle Driver: (Available during disasters 24 hours a day/7 days a week)
Operates an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and its equipment safely and effectively to meet feeding and other service needs of people affected by disaster.
 
Nurses and Mental Health Counselors: (Available during disasters 24 hours a day/7 days a week)
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Physicians, Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technician who have current, active professional licenses are needed in Disaster Health Services to meet the health needs of people affected by disaster and the Red Cross Staff members assigned to disaster responses.
 
Shelter Workers and Mangers: (Available during disasters 24 hours a day/7 days a week)
Register shelter populations, conduct dormitory inventory, feeding clients, ensuring shelters are supplied.

Health & Safety Services
 
Office Support Staff: (Office Hours)
Assist department in registering people for classes, answering phones, entering data, conducting customer service surveys, etc.
 
Presenter/Leader: (Weekdays, Evenings and Weekends)
Be trained to do presentations to groups, including: Workplace Safety, Be Red Cross Ready, Aquatics and Water Safety.
 
Office of Volunteer
 
Support Staff: (Office Hours)
Make follow up phone calls, conduct phone interviews, data entry, and help plan volunteer recognition events, file paperwork, etc.
