(Orlando) People who want to send holiday cheer to our armed forces can sign a free card this Saturday.
At several locations around the Mid-Florida Region, Red Cross volunteers will have cards available for people to sign and send to military service members, their families and veterans as part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
Look for Red Cross volunteers at these locations:
- Eau Gallie Flea Market off I-95, Melbourne, FL, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Fashion Square Mall, 3201 E Colonial Drive, Orlando, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Ride for the Red at Honda of Winter Haven, 3699 U.S. 17 N, Winter Haven, 8:30-10 a.m.
- Volusia Mall, 1700 W. Intl. Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Each location will have 2,500 cards on-hand. The cards were printed and donated courtesy of Darden Restaurants.
Last year the chapters within the Mid-Florida Region collected more than 5,000 cards. Nationwide, the program delivered 1.4 million holiday greetings.
This is the third year that the American Red Cross will partner with Pitney Bowes. The company will provide all screening, packaging and shipping at no charge to the Red Cross. The Red Cross will utilize hundreds of volunteers to sort and box cards for delivery in November and December.
Anyone interested in sending a card on their own can send it to:

Please be sure to affix adequate postage. Cards must be received no later than December 7, 2009. Cards received after this date will be returned to senders. For reasons of processing and safety, participants are asked to refrain from sending “care packages,” monetary gifts, using glitter or including any inserts with the cards.
